Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett

Imagine Hamlet ("The play's the thing...") meets MacBeth ("Out, damn spot...") in a world without Shakespeare, and you have the flavor of this installment in Terry Pratchett's magical Disc World series.  This is the story of three witches who, despite their wishes, are forced to intervene in some intrigue involving the king of Lancre and his untimely, accidental death after falling down the stairs with a dagger in his back.  There's lots of good stuff here, including a fool destined for greater things, a prince destined for greater things, and a duchess destined for lunch.

It's the witches, though, who steel the show (and rightfully so - it's their story after all.)  Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and Magrat form a rich and entertaining trio that make this book a must read for Pratchett fans, Shakespeare fans, and people who just enjoy really good stories set in the country.

Recommendation: Buy it.
